I am a 40 something aspiring Triathlete. I have been involved in sport all of my life and it is both work and leisure to me. I grew up being heavily involved in the horse world and reached the giddy heights of being a Director of the British Equestrian Federation and attending World and European Championships as both a coach and a team manager – fairly surprising when you consider that I can from the mining communities of Derbyshire. However, horse sport wasn’t my only love, I trained as a PE Teacher and I both played and coached a number of sports including hockey, tennis and swimming. After working for a number of local authorities in sports development and a stint with the National Coaching Foundation (now known as sports coach UK) I founded KAM Ltd over 10 years ago and now the company works with a wider range of clients delivering and designing training and working on community sports projects.
I am a National Trainer with both sports coach UK and runningsports and I have recently been heavily involved in the design of the new Level 3 Qualification Managing Sports Volunteers. In terms of current volunteering I was on the Interim Board for the National Skills Academy, I am a member of the Personal Development Board with ISPAL and I am an Executive Board Member on Derbyshire Sport. On a more grassroots level I am the Chair of our local Sport Action Group and I am just training to be a Level 2 Triathlon Coach, experiencing UKCC from the ‘other side’ for once.
