Taxation and Sport
What tax information do I need to know?
Sports clubs should be aware that tax will have an impact on their affairs. They enjoy no special exemptions from tax – something that is not always widely understood. Often, therefore, unexpected tax liabilities arise and opportunities to minimise tax are lost.
The 'Taxation and Sport' Quick Guide attempts to explain, at a basic level, the taxes of which volunteers should be aware. The guide covers the following topics:
> why is tax important?
> whose responsibility is it?
> what is and what is not taxable?
> registering as a charity
> Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs)
> what costs can be deducted?
> how much Corporation Tax is payable?
> dealing with VAT
> dealing with PAYE
> expenses and benefits
> improving facilities
> fund-raising
> national governing bodies and leagues
> what to do next and further information
> glossary of terms
> useful contacts
> more help from runningsports
