Since starting with one team in 1984, TS Sports Football Club has grown at a phenomenal rate. Currently including fourteen teams, and with three more on the way, the club recognized the challenges that this growth was creating, and called upon the expert skills and advice that runningsports provides.
In the words of Bob Barsby, the club chairman, “to continue to grow we knew we had to progress with issues like volunteer management and child protection and things like that. We really wanted to be more established as a club and to attract more players and volunteers”
So, after attending a runningsports Volunteer Management workshop Bob and his committee drew up an action plan for recruiting volunteers and appointed specific volunteer managers. Motivation and recognition were other areas that the club worked on. “Making everyone really feel part of a common objective is central to this,” Bob explained.
All of this has already had an effect with 20 new volunteers signing up. And without this extra help the club simply wouldn’t have been able to continue its expansion. Bob feels that without attending the workshop they might not have made any of these important changes; in his own words “we would have just carried on as we were doing.”
So for all those sports clubs out there with volunteer issues, Bob “definitely” suggests runningsports Volunteer Management workshops. “It helps in every way,” he remarks, “your goals, your aims, what you are looking for in terms of volunteers and the finance side of it”.
